Josiah update

It's been a while since I wrote about what Josiah is up to these days. He's officially 1 1/2 (now almost 19 months). He's still not walking on his own which has been a great topic of conversation lately. But since I & others in my family were late walkers we're not concerned. And a Danish physio gave him a quick look over & says she thinks he's fine & will walk when he wants to.

So on to the things he can do! (Which this first-time mom is really impressed by. Maybe other kids can do the same but we like to think he's brilliant!)

We're hoping to get some videos one day but we have to do it at a time that Josiah is cooperative & I look presentable. :)

Josiah can point to a number of body parts when they are named: hair, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, chin, chest, fingers, hands, elbows (sometimes), tummy, belly button (also likes to find other's bb), knee, feet, toes & back

Can point to the correct animal when named: bird, butterfly, cow, frog & others (sometimes depends on his mood)

Also recognizes Daddy, Mommy & Josiah in photos.

A Sesame street book has different characters on each page & then all of them at the end. Josiah points to Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar & Zoe correctly 100% of the time!

He's starting to make more animal sounds. The following are recognizable: lion, duck, monkey, elephant & sometimes cow.

His understandable vocabulary includes Mama, Daddy, more, ball, bear, bird, thank you, ("please" is understandable but pronounced "nana" for whatever reason), Barney, Elmo, door. He's also repeating words we say all the time. They are understandable at the time but not always used repeatedly.

Sign language: food, more, please, thank you, sorry, help

Started playing make-believe: he's been giving his bear drinks from his sippy cup for a while but has now added sharing french fries with bear. Too cute.

Favorite videos: Barney, Elmo & Blue's Clues

Josiah loves to play with balls. He loves to throw balls down the stairs, off the couch, etc & likes to kick the ball when holding onto our hands while walking. He also likes to play with cars & makes a "vroom vroom" sound as he drives them around

He likes to scribble on his "Aqua Doodle" & I love that it's only water! He still likes to knock over a tower of anything but has also started stacking blocks & building.

Can understand & follow directions- like "go get your ball" or "go read your books"

Jon got Star Trek- Deep Space 9 for Christmas & Josiah giggles & laughs when the theme music comes on. I think he'll be a Trekkie.

We've instituted time-out: 60 seconds in the crib for disobeying (for example, touching something he's not supposed to- recent fave- the switches on the electric outlets. He loves to flip that switch & hear the clicking sound!)
So far all the time outs had been at home. Last night he continued to try to climb onto the coffee table at someone's house. So after the warning of time out & repeated attempt to climb, he got a time out in the corner. Miraculously he stayed put! It worked! And usually he cries at home in the crib. He didn't cry at all in the corner. Hmmm.

yeah! Josiah news! Funny how kids are so similar in some ways...Lj loves to find other people's bb as well (= A little embarassing if she tries to pull up a guest's shirt....
She JUST starting stacking blocks this week. She is still very pleased with herself and claps like crazy (=
She will definately NOT be a trekkie...(=
She is VERY picky about what she'll watch on TV. If it doesn't include real children singing a song, she hands you the remote and wants you to change it. If it is an adult program, she ignores it until the ads come on (= Oh well.

With him not wanting to walk on his own yet, can you IMAGINGE having another little one already!?! That would be so challenging (= Glad the doc said all is well.

Hey, I saw Peggy Reynoso at the coaching conference. Hmm. guess I should have just emailed you instead of writing this ginormous comment....

The Bakers are impressed with Josiah, too! It sounds like you are really having fun together.

Theodore is not talking but is walking and climbing. He understands and follows simple instructions, just doesn't talk.
