Easter baskets
In my family Easter baskets were for collecting Easter eggs- the real ones that we boiled & dyed. I don't remember ever using plastic candy filled eggs growing up. (Maybe that's partly because they weren't available in England & Norway!) The first time I ever got an Easter basket with gifts was when I was living with Wanda & L. E. I never felt deprived though!
Jon's family on the other hand had Easter gifts. So we took advantage of the tradition to give our kids new beach toys. Josiah's current beach toys were passed on to us and are not currently doing so well. They have lived through as much of the Omani sun & heat as they can take and are cracking & falling apart.
Right away the trucks were filled with plastic Easter eggs & the eggs were dumped into the buckets, etc. Then, after breakfast this morning we were outside and Joey & Elie were digging away in the rocks in our front yard. It is getting quite hot (high 90's) so Jon & I were not thrilled to be outside but the kids were having a blast. The trucks & shovels have now been washed and are back inside for playtime tomorrow. The plastic eggs will stick around for at least another week.
We actually have talked about what Easter really means and Josiah randomly comes out with "Jesus died on a cross." Now he is also able to answer why Jesus died. "To save us from our sins." We continue to marvel at the grace we receive so undeservedly because of His sacrifice. He is risen. He is risen indeed.
