Kayla's birth story

Believe it or not this is the short version. I guess you can expect a midwife to have a much more detailed version. I will save anyone who is squemish from that version. If you want more details let me know & I'll send them personally. :)

I had an appointment with the OB at the hospital 3 days after my due date. (This was at 10 AM.) I was 4 cm and she didn’t want to let me go home so she admitted me. I was just having some cramping but we tried to get things going by walking a lot. Jon drove down from Sohar and arrived a bit after lunch. By 3 PM I hadn’t really changed and she wanted to break my water. I wanted to just give it a bit more time. I’d had contractions off & on but after she checked me the second time they got stronger.

When I got more uncomfortable with the contractions I got in the shower. The water really helped. I started to feel pressure to push about 7 PM. Unfortunately this was change of shift so nothing happened very quickly. They took me to the delivery room before checking to see if I was completely dilated. When we got there & they checked me I was only about 8 cm. I was disappointed but after a few more contractions my water broke and then Kayla’s head appeared. We tried to have the nurse call the Dr. before we went to the delivery room like she had asked us but they didn’t. So she didn’t make it in time for the delivery. The midwife delivered Kayla. Kayla’s cord was around her neck and it was tight so the midwife had to clamp and cut it before the rest of her body was born. Still not a bad labor- Kayla was born at 7:40 PM.

Jon & Lynnie were both great through the whole thing. They were both supportive & encouraging. Out of my 3 birth experiences the hospital is my least favorite but I’m grateful for skilled attendants when they are needed.
