We spent a couple of days with our good friends from language school- Tom & Steph. Steph was pregnant at the same time as me and their daughter Layla is 5 weeks younger than Josiah. Layla was bigger than Josiah when she was born and has continued to be a very cute chubby baby. Josiah was longer than Layla at birth. We measured them while we were together. Josiah just has 1/2 cm on Layla and Layla is heavier than Josiah. Layla has been sleeping on her tummy practically since she was born so she is doing more in the crawling department. She actually made true crawling movements the day we left (before it was kinda flops). She also pulled herself up to a standing position while we were there. Layla has 3 almost 4 teeth already. She was turning the pages of books as Steph read to her. (Josiah is still only scooting backwards and has no teeth.)
So not to be outdone! Josiah is now turning the pages of books as we read. He turns them a bit more forcefully than Layla. :) Josiah is drinking from a sippy cup these days- so far just water. He has also started helping push his arms through his clothes. A great thing since dressing is not his favorite activity. He is a lot more vocal than Layla. She is a quiet ladylike baby & he's a loud boy. It's fun to see the differences in their personalities already. They do have fun sitting & looking at each other or reaching out to grab the other's face. It will be a few years before they play together. We never got our usual both kids in the crib & carseats pictures so this will have to do...
It has been good for me to have another mom going through a similar stage of life. We chat on the phone about what the kids are doing, how to handle nap schedules, baby food, etc. Even though she's a few hours away Steph is still a huge blessing in my life!

Hey! Thanks for laying out the photos like that - it is fun to see them getting bigger! Tom and I have started trying to get Lj to do that Peek a Boo thing you do with Josiah and the napkin. She is slowly catching on (= I do it with the washcloth after we eat. You should really have mentioned that Josiah is miles ahead in the talking/giggling/responding department! He is TOO fun to play with (=
Not only can you not compare child to child, but you can never compare a girl's development with a boy's development. The girl will always win for the first several years.
Josiah is precious! We watch the video of his "head scratching" over and over which always leaves us smiling!
